GINATILAN

The town was once a barrio of the Municipality of Samboan.  It lies almost at the tip of the island of Cebu and covers a total land area of about 6,846.44 hectares.  A large part of Ginatilan’s land formation is mountainous wherein the highest peak is 816 meters above sea level.  In addition, the town is just a few minutes walk from the Municipality of Samboan.  This peaceful and clean town has 14 barangays and with a total population of 14,073 according to 2000 census.

“Hinatdan” was the former name of the place because during Spanish times, villagers frequently bring necessary things needed in the celebration of the mass.  However, Spanish Officials found it difficult to utter so they alter “Hinatdan” to “Ginatilan”.
