SAMBOAN

 
 

Lies on the southernmost tip of Cebu province that is roughly 140kms from the Queen City of the South.  This 5th class municipality is bounded by the Municipality of Ginatilan on the North; Santander on the South; Municipality of Oslob on the East and Tañon Strait on the West.  Samboan is the short form of the word Sinamboang that means a way of fishing used by the natives.  This small quaint town in a hill is an ideal place to relax from hustle and bustle living in the metropolis.  Furthermore, Samboan is also popular for its crystal clear waters along its coastal barangay.  The main occupations of the locals are farming and fishing.  The municipality is politically subdivided into 15 barangays.

 
   
   
     

LOCAL HERITAGE

 

St. Jacob's Ladder

 
      This famous landmark is otherwise known as Escala De Jacobe.  This ladder consists of 156 steps that are made of coral stones.  Jacob’s ladder was constructed around 17th or 18th century by the Spaniards.  This 300-years-old ladder is built to connect the fishing village in Sitio Escalon and Tambol to the church located at the top of the hill.    
 

Antigua de Campanario

   
     

An old bell tower that nestles at the top of the hill.  Antigua de Campanario is made of coral stones and according to local myth, it was believed that this bell tower was used as a watchtower to guard the town from pagan attack which will abduct children and women.  On the other hand, some experts believed that Antigua De Campanario is a bell tower of some ruins of an old church.

  1879 Watchtower  
      Is the tallest and most preserved watchtower in Cebu wherein it is made up of blocks of coral stones.  It was constructed to watch the Moro Invaders that will occupy the island.  This whitewashed tower of Samboan can be clearly seen from Negros side.  In addition, the second story of the watchtower offers a stunning vista.

  San Sebastian Stone Walls  
      Is another local heritage of Brgy. Bato in Samboan.  No one leaves Samboan without a visit at San Sebastian Stone Walls.    
  Spanish Boundary Post

Spanish Boundary Post - stands along at the main road of Barangay Tangbo.  This old coral stone-made believed to be an old mark of the boundary limit of old Poblacion but presently it serves as a border between Barangay Bonbon and Tangbo.    
                                       

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

  Colase Marine Sanctuary  
      It has a very rich marine life collection and is protected by the municipality together with the fishermen organization.  It is one of the most preserved marine ecosystems wherein sharks often visit, dolphins play, whales frequently  traverse and different species of fish visit a lot in the most shallow part of the shoreline.    
  Aguinid Waterfalls  
      Is Samboan’s long-kept secret.  Aguinid Waterfalls is composed of five unique levels of waterfalls.  Each will give you an adrenaline rush that adds enjoyment in your adventure.  This pristine waterfall is truly an out of this world haven that gives you a perfect escapade.    
  Bonbon Hidden Falls  
      A 75-meter drop of gleaming water that is perfect for a cool bathe.  This chocolate box falls is otherwise known as Triple Drop Waterfalls.  Bonbon Hidden Falls is another unique spot to visit in Samboan.    
  Ponong Hidden Lake  
      This natural formation is situated in the northern part of Poblacion.  Ponong Hidden Lake is not actually a lake but a type of a closed lagoon.  Furthermore, the waters in here are brackish and the surroundings are absolutely stunning.    
  Balay’g Sawa Falls  
      Sprawls in the hilly portion of Sitio Catalina-ay.  It is a smaller fall but with bigger and cooler lagoon which is ideal in taking a deep swim.    
  Calderon Highway    
      In the mountainous portion of Samboan is the newly paved road that is name after the prominent Samboan Assemblyman- Pedro Calderon.  Calderon Highway connects the town to the Municipality of Oslob.  In addition, this highway is best for riding, mountain biking and hiking to Samboan peaks.    
  Mt. Bartolina  
      A magnificent mountain that lets you behold the astonishing landscapes of Cebu, Bohol, Negros, Siquijor, Mactan, Bantayan, and Mindanao.  Mt. Bartolina is the highest peak in the south of Cebu and when you reach the peak, you can catch the splendor of daybreak and dusk.    
  Bato Wharf  
      Another popular site in Samboan that serves as a doorway to Negros Oriental.  During clear days, one can see people in the neighboring islands.    
                                       

DELECTABLE DELICACY

     
  • Torta Espesyal- with or without coco wine, Torta Espesyal is still scrumptious.
   
     
  • Samboan Cookies- usually comes out best during the town’s feast which is being offered for their visitors.
   
     
  • Torta de Tangbo- is said to be the finest delicacy in the locality if not in the entire Cebu.
