TOLEDO

 
 

A 2nd class municipality that is formerly called as Pueblo Hinulawan lies on the Tañon Strait across from Negros Island and San Carlos City of Negros Oriental.  This livable city in the west coast of Cebu is the home of the country’s largest copper mine company- Atlantas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation.  It officially became a city on January 6, 1961 due to a large contribution of Atlantas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation.  Toledo City is politically subdivided into 38 barangays.

 
   
   
     

INTERESTING PLACES

 

Parola

 
      It is a familiar sight among regular sea travelers.  Old folks call this site as parola- that was derived from the Spanish term “farola”, meaning a structure that contains a guiding lamp for mariners during nighttime.    
 

Old City Hall Building

   
     

The edifice had undergone some renovation for the past years yet its basic design dates back to the pre-World War II era is still intact.

   
  Public Market  
     
Basks on the land which was once a part of mangrove area and part underground.
   
  Seafront Boulevard  
      A Boulevard facing Tañon Strait is constructed on cultivated shoreline from the harbor area all the way North to Barangay Luray II that creates a new road similar to the old main road of Katipunan and Poloyapoy avenues.    
  City Plaza  
      Straddling a few blocks away from the City Hall, Cultural Center and Toledo Parish Church.  There are several park benches to sit whilst having a vista of the circular fountain in the middle of the plaza.    
  Consolatrix Academy  
      This only private Catholic school in town nestles at the top of the hill along Magsaysay Street.    
  Cultural Center  
      It has spacious space that is enough to accommodate sports events, entertainment or public shows.    
  Toledo City Church  
      A site to visit whist taking a trip in Toledo City.    
  Unity Park and Playground  
      Opened on late July 2006, it is a safe place for locals or visitors who would like to unwind during early evening or weekends.
