Philippine Celebrities

 

Philippine celebrities are the IT in every Filipino home. A typical Filipino home would consist of the family and a television or a radio. The family is always updated with the latest news of their stars – their idolized celebrities. They wouldn’t dare miss a single television stint by their stars. Every night – after school/work, the family would bond together and watch the television that airs their favorite sitcoms, tele-series where they can see their idols playing roles on TV.

The following are just a handful of Filipino celebrities:

 

Lea Salonga – Maria Ligaya Carmen Imutan Salonga was born on the 22nd of February, 1971 in the country, Philippines. She’s a multi-awarded Filipina actress and singer known internationally from the musical Miss Saigon as Kim. On Broadway, she was the first Asian who ever played the role of Eponine in the musical Les Miserables. She’s recognized as the first to win various international awards like Tony, Outer Critic, Oliver, Drama Desk, and the Theatre World for a single role.

In 1992, she was the singing voice of princess Jasmine (Aladdin) and as Fa Mulan for the Mulan series in 1998 and 2004.

   
 
Sharon Cuneta – is Sharon Gamboa Cuneta – Pangilinan, the Mega Star of Philippine Showbiz, was born on the 6th of January, 1966. She’s a popular Filipina singer, actress endorses, and TV host. At a very young age, she has been a Box Office Queen on the Hall of Fame, a Grand Slam awardee, and is a constant recipient of several lifetime achievement awards.
   
       
 
Gary Valenciano – Edgardo Jose Martin Santiago Valenciano / Gary V. is nicknamed as Mr. Pure Energy because of his energetic dance moves. He’s a Filipino actor, gospel singer, musician, producer and composer. His genre are: dance music, gospel, OPM and pop.
   
         
 
Kris Aquino – Kritina Bernadette Cojuangco Aquino, who is widely known as the Philippines Queen of Talk due to her success in talk shows hosting. She was crowned as the Box Office Queen because of her hit movie – So..Happy Together and Feng Shui. Her movie Sukob (2006) was the highest-grossing Filipino movie of that year.
   
         
 
Charice Pempengco – Charmaine Clarice Relicio Pempengco. Is now an internationally recognized as a child singer performer. She was widely known in the country when she ranked 3rd placer in the Little Big Star. Oprah and Ellen DeGeneres just to name a few of the BIG shows in the States that have been honored by her presence as guest.
   
       
 
Pinoy Big Brother – is the Philippine edition of Big Brother, a reality television show. It follows an identical principle with Big Brother: 12 filipinos are coerce to live together in a house for 100 days. At the beginning of the elimination procedure the “housemates” would vote for fellow housemate that they should eliminate. The viewers then vote on which nominee they wanted to stay on longer in the Big Brother house. The housemate having the smallest vote will get eliminated. In its final week, the housemate who has the most number of votes will win the grand reward package worth six million pesos ($111,000) all in all. Other essentials are also present like the daily and weekly challenges, the voice known as “Big Brother” sometimes referred to as “Kuya”, and the confessional room.
   
 

Kim Chiu – Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu. She’s a Filipina actress and model. Her first appearance was on a reality TV show, the Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition (April 2006) and won the grand prize garnering over 600,000 votes. Kimerald, a combination of names Kim and Gerald, was made as a love team as they entered showbiz. She starred on First Day High, her ever first movie. Kimerald eventually was given their first solo movie I’ve Fallen for You.

   
 

Judy Ann Santos – commonly known as Juday. She’s an award-winning multi-nominated television and film actress in the country. She has been labeled as The Young Superstar because of her unparalleled success amongst the Filipino masses.

Her acting proficiency has garnered 1 Best Supporting Actress award, 9 Best Actress awards, and more than 25 acting nominations. She received the FAMAS, Gawad URIAN, FAP Luna, Gawad PASADO, PMPC Star, Gawad TANGLAW, Metro Manila Film Festival – Philippines, and the ENPRESS Golden Screen statuettes.

For her box – office prowess, she has received 1 Ms. RP Movies, 2 Teenage Queen of Philippine Movies and 1 Box Office Queen awards from the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
